Health: Garlic supports detox

Garlic contains proteins, potassium, vitamins, calcium, zinc and a sulphur compound allicin. There have been many studies done by the Royal College of Physicians confirming that garlic, taken in various forms, can reduce cholesterol. This could be endorsed by reading the study by Neil Silagy in the Royal College Journal.

Researchers are of the belief that the allicin compound found in garlic can act as a very powerful antioxidant. One of the natural health experts, Sandra Kim Leong, has written extensively for the Self Growth Magazine on how garlic supports in the detoxification of the body. She has done much work on the detox diet secrets as well as on the topics pertaining to bowel and digestive health.

She talks about how a detox diet can help cleanse the body by removing the toxins and the waste products and improve your overall health. One of the major ingredients in the secret detox diets is garlic. As per Leong, garlic is extremely helpful in helping digestive disorders.

She goes on to say that garlic gets its medical value from the diallyl sulphide that it contains. It is a very powerful antibiotic and can cure a whole host of infections. Leong cautions us to limit the quantity of garlic that we take in per day as she does not want the body to risk building up a tolerance to the natural antibiotic. It is the case of playing safe on the immunity levels.

The Journal of the Royal College of Physicians covers studies on how garlic increases phagocytosis. This happens when the white blood cells fight against the toxins or the bacterial infections. Garlic has also been reported to strengthen the immune system cells. Garlic has now become the center of many studies with a focus on how it can be used to cure AIDS.

The Journal also reports that garlic has been found to be helpful in the reduction of blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It has that extra ordinary ability to control blood from clotting and also counters the free radicals. It has not only been found to be instrumental in curing blood diseases but also in preventing cancer.

Garlic also has its aphrodisiac properties. We have gathered from Buddhist tales that Tibetan monks were not allowed to enter the monasteries if they had consumed garlic. They felt that it stirred passions by increasing the blood circulation.

Do you need more motivation to start eating garlic regularly in small quantities? Sandra Leong says that “this detox diet food is also being studied as a possible treatment for conditions such as athlete’s foot, asthma, vaginal infections, diabetes, colds and candida.” She asks people not to swallow whole garlic as it needs to be sliced, cooked and chewed to get the best out of its healing capacities that will stimulate your adrenaline. It will kick up the required enzymes in the body.
